Cenote SW189 Stoneware Crystal, Cone 6-10

Consistent Performance and Control!

Cone 6 oxidation (first photo): Cenote is a semi-opaque, sky blue gloss glaze that has a variety of brown crystals that melt during firing.

Cone 10 reduction (second photo): Base color darkens. Crystals become darker and more defined.

TIP: SW-166 Norse Blue is the base glaze. For a lighter crystal effect, you may try applying two coats of SW-166 Norse Blue with a third coat of SW-189 Cenote.

Mayco’s Stoneware Crystal Glaze

Mayco’s Stoneware Crystal glazes are a unique line of glazes that contain colorful crystals in the glazes themselves that are designed to melt and bloom during the firing.

These crystals add variation in color, finish, and movement to the glazes that you already know and love! All of our Stoneware Crystal glazes begin with a base glaze; most of the base glazes can be found in our other Stoneware Glaze lines.

General Use

Stoneware Crystal Glazes are designed to expand upon the surface with dazzling bursts of color. Crystals will settle to the bottom of the jar and will need thorough mixing prior to initial use and in between each coat. Apply two to three coats using a fan or hake brush. While the glaze is wet, use your brush to redistribute crystals to achieve balanced coverage. Over application of the crystals can cause pinholing or running. Avoid placing crystals near the bottom third of a vertical piece as they may cause additional movement during firing. See label for additional firing information for individual glazes and cone 10 performance.

NOTE: Please refer to each specific glaze product label for information about applications for dinnerware, health, and food safety. All Mayco Stoneware glazes are dinnerware safe when used according to manufacturer’s directions, except where noted by the “Not Dinnerware Safe” icon. This may be due to surface durability or texture of fired surface. Finished ware producers may be required to have their ware food safe tested prior to introducing into commerce.
